How to Keep Cool in Charleston
Shades of Charleston, Charleston, SC
If you live in the Charleston area, you know that summers can get hot. And by hot, we mean that every time you walk into a building with AC, you thank your lucky stars for the geniuses who invented it. While AC is truly a miracle, no one wants to spend all of their days inside when Charleston has so much to explore. That’s why we’ve come up with a number of ways to keep cool in the Charleston area on the weekends.
Hot days are better at the beach! The cool ocean air on Sullivan's Island will provide you and your crew some relief from the heat. On a windy day head down to Station 28.5 to watch the kiteboarders take flight. After a full day, hop over to some of our favorite beach bars; Home Team, Mex 1, Poe's Tavern, Dunleavy's Pub and 450 Pizza just to name a few!
Pro Tip: Watch out for those delicious Game Changers from Home Team. Those frozen drinks will sneak up on ya!
ISLE OF PALMS
Just a short drive from downtown, Isle of Palms is a great place for all ages! If volleyball is your thing check out The Windjammer on front beach, they also have great live music when the sun goes down.
Located in the heart of Mount Pleasant, this bustling creek is full of some great views! Shrimp boats, cocktails & sunsets are just a few awesome things this creek has to offer. Stay cool and dine by the water with all the great restaurant options.
Have access to a boat? Check out Capers, a short boat ride just north of Isle of Palms where the locals go! Capers is a great spot to get away with the family for a day.
If you're into fishing in the Lowcountry flats, the intracoastal waterway has tons to offer! Did we mention it gets hot down here?! It's hard to beat a day of being on the water and catching some fish.
Not something you’ve ever done? Well then, there’s a first for everything. Sullivan’s Island is the perfect place to learn how to kiteboard and to keep cool on hot summer days.
Kiteboarding a bit too advanced? Then give paddleboarding a try! The waters of Sullivan’s Island are gorgeous and a perfect way to spend your weekend in the Lowcountry.
Nothing is more refreshing than a frozen Acai bowl on a hot summer's day. There are a handful of fabulous places in Mount Pleasant where you can cool off with one of these tasty bowls!
Whether you’re looking for some fresh produce, a snack from one of Charleston’s finest food trucks, or just need a cold, refreshing drink to cool you off, the Farmer’s Market is the perfect pit stop on a hot summer Saturday.
